NexSys PhD researchers Saba Aghdam Tabar & Milad Rajaei recently received the Aoife Carney Memorial Award 2024-2025.
Saba and Milad were honoured to be presented their Certificates by ProfessorSteven Ferguson and Adrian Dungan at the University College Dublin Engineering Graduates Association (EGA) Award Ceremony.
The Aoife Carney Memorial Fund was established, in 2021, in memory of Aoife Carney. Aoife served as the SCBE administrative manager from 1998 until 2021, when she passed away tragically. Aoife was much-loved and well-respected by students and staff within the School and beyond. She was known for her warmth and genuine interest in people and was the first port of call for anyone in need of help, advice or simply a listening ear.
The purpose of the Aoife Carney Memorial Award is to:
- Commemorate Aoife and continue her legacy of having a positive impact on the SCBE students and their well-being, both undergraduate and postgraduate.
- Positively affect the personal development of SCBE students and/or the wider community
Their project, “Pathways & Perspectives: A Postgraduate Development Day,” is centred on something close to both of their hearts: supporting postgraduate students through the emotional, academic, and career challenges that often go unspoken. They hope to create a space where students feel seen, connected, and supported through alumni mentorship, honest conversations, and reflective activities and they are excited to bring this initiative to life next semester.
Well done both of you on this amazing achievement! We are so proud of you both!
