Peer-to-peer Energy Trading: A Decentralised Energy Future for Ireland?

Ireland’s electricity system is undergoing a shift toward increased decentralisation, driven by rising consumer participation and distributed generation. Peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading offers a new model where households and communities can directly exchange electricity, creating local and flexible energy systems.

In this lunchtime webinar, (opens in a new window)Dr Sweta Malik of NexSys, author of a policy paper looking at the potential for peer-to-peer energy trading in Ireland, will be joined by Fergus O'Toole (Manager, Active Customers & Smart Metering, CRU) and John Walsh (Emerging Technology and R&D Manager, ESB) for a discussion on the potential for peer-to-peer in Ireland, including key barriers and enablers for this new approach to decentralised energy. The discussion will be moderated by Dr Claire O’Connell (science writer and journalist with The Irish Times).
